There is a Proper Way to Use Perfume
Fact! Consider layering perfumes - use all the same fragrance in various products. Begin with shower or bath gel and then rub in body lotion or spray with a matching after bath spray. Finally apply the scent preferably as Perfume or Eau de Perfume. As one layer wears off, the others come into play, making your scent last longer.
Perfume can inspire, delight, and arouse your sense of smell, and thereby, other desires of the human body. Everyone, everywhere, is different and has certain scents that attract them or turn them off completely or even make them want to gag! I'm sure you've had the experience of walking into a room where someone is wearing a strong-smelling perfume; depending on your preference you've either gotten a headache, felt nauseous or may have been drawn in by the pleasantness. It's important for anyone who uses scents to understand the proper use of perfume and be able to apply it to their own reason for using it.
The Proper Scent
Sometimes manufacturers will market their perfumes in special limited edition bottles. I have some of these that I just couldn't throw away when the perfume was gone! So don't; don't throw out; just refill them with the same perfume and keep using them.
One of the most basic things to understand about using perfume is that not all scents are good for all people. You need to take time to explore what scents work best with your body chemistry and still give you the desired effect you want. A scent that's meant to be a pleasant smell for day to day use will be completely different than a scent meant to seduce a lover.
Perfume counters at some department stores are good places to smell and try on different products before you buy them. Take the time and smell all different types in the bottles and find ones that are pleasing to you. Try each one you like, one at a time, over a period of several days to see which perfume blends best with your natural chemistry.
One thing that can help this process go faster is to learn to identify the category of each label. Some scents are floral, some are woodsy, some are blended, and so on. By determining what type of scent you want and defining what the different perfumes are, you can quickly eliminate the ones you won't like without wasting the time trying them out. At the higher-end department stores, the people behind the counter are usually trained and can be very helpful in this venture.
The Application
When you've found the scent you like, you should understand how best to apply the product. It's important that a perfume be fairly subtle and not overpowering. People who pass by should get a gentle whiff of the pleasant smell, not be overpowered by it. Applying a dab or a quick spritz to the pulse points of your body is always a safe way to go. Just use one little spray on each point; your nose will be accustomed to the scent after a few minutes so you might not be able to smell it but other people will.
Some people prefer to spray the scent into air and walk through it so you have more of a total, though usually much lighter, body coverage.
If you're intent is on seduction, a dab or spritz in the cleavage area is very effective.
Some perfumes work well when sprayed over the hair; this allows them to be more true to the original scent because it doesn't change by interacting with your body chemistry or perspiration. The scent also lasts longer because the oils in the perfume evaporate more slowly.
Depending on the fabric, you can spray some on your clothing. According to Lumög Perfumes₍₁₎, as long as the perfume is sprayed from about a foot away, it won't leave a concentrated spot of oil on your clothes. Also, if you spray too close to your clothing, it leaves behind a high concentration of alcohol which can damage the fabric. Spraying the perfume on your clothes increases the staying power of the perfume.
Don't mix the scent of your perfume with other products - lotions, shampoos, powders, etc. - that have a different scent or type of scent. Either use unscented products or ones with the same scent as your perfume. Whether it's for everyday use or for certain occasions, always take care to make sure the scent achieved is simple and desirable.
