Understanding the Silence of the Mind

8th of 10 Take Back Your Power! articles:

Every single person, every single day has the chance to experience and undergo a much greater life; it is each person’s individual choice.

Abundance, peace and happiness are your inheritance and they are much easier to achieve when you practice centering and quieting the mind. No, it’s not simple to accomplish, especially in a very noisy society, but it can be done.

Your mind is constantly noisy, constantly bombarded by thoughts. When you quiet and center your mind, when the streams of thoughts are blocked off, a different section of your mind becomes active. The conscious thinking mind gives way to the part of your mind that contains transforming knowledge and usable concepts, your subconscious.

The moment that busy thought recedes, you can then go deep into your mind. Your present thoughts, your conscious knowledge, constructive ideas and intellectual thinking should all stop in order for silence to enter the mind. Meditation provides an entrance into the subconscious mind. It helps calm the mind, helps you achieve that silence and retrieve answers or solutions to whatever you need. Just as the body requires regular exercise to be strong and supple, the mind also needs constant practice to minimize its random feelings and thoughts.

Silencing your mind through meditation lets you bond and attach with your central being, your spirit or soul, so that you can experience the fulfillment and peace that lives within.

Curiosity is what stimulates your thoughts, a need to comprehend a new event that engrosses your thought and until your mind fully comprehends that new situation, it won’t stop thinking. Each time a new thought enters your mind, it is immediately dynamic and lively; after all thinking is the mind’s specialty.

In contrast, meditation assists you in silencing your mind so that you can obtain deep and profound guidance.

At certain times your mind is restless, and you can feel that it’s progressively thinking; this is how the mind breaks away from its agitation. There are certain times that your mind is strained due to so much work and therefore searches for relaxation; thinking is the mind’s way of relaxing (even though it may not be yours).

To silence your mind you need the courage to release and set free your past, the hurt upon which you have formed a certain sense of character that keeps you trapped in that past.

To silence the mind you also need the courage to release the future, your expectations and fears and to only live for the present; the present is the only period of time and phase of life that can truly do anything about.

It is only by existing in the present that you’re able to let go of all connections to the outcome of your actions or “karma”. Success and failure no longer offer you the identity you depend on. It is when you connect to the quietness underneath your mental commotion that you find inner peace. It is 'here' alone, in the present, that you can feel and live in abundance because you have left your negative “baggage” from the past behind.

Meditation is an exercise that soothes your mind, relaxes your body and lessens tension. With constant practice, the rushing and raising of the thoughts in your mind slows down, and consequently, your mind relaxes.

Happiness then increases with regular meditation. Love, understanding, tolerance, inner strength and bravery also increase. Your ability to concentrate is sharpened, so that your mind is stronger and you are in control. Your capacity to enjoy the “present” is cultivated and blaming, as well as criticizing, which are negative attitudes decreases or stops altogether.

You know without any doubt, spiritually, that understanding and knowledge lies inside your heart and that your mind searches for it by way of thinking.

Restlessness is handled by summoning peace. Relaxation will be found when your mind is at rest. Although on certain occasions thinking generates cleverness, silence can grant the complete state of mind in which cleverness is only one portion. When you find yourself constantly thinking and searching for a way out of some situation, or answers to a question, turn to meditation - you’ll be surprised how often you find the exact path to follow or the perfect resolution.

It is in this silent state of that mind that you can attract positive forces and focus your subconscious on setting goals and paths for your success.
